A First-Time Gun Buyer’s Guide: 5 Things To Know Before You Buy

Buying your first firearm can feel intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. At 1882 Homestead we walk first-timers through the process every week. Here are the five things we wish every new buyer knew before they started shopping.

1. Start With Your Purpose

Home defense, concealed carry, hunting, and target shooting all point toward different firearms. Be honest about how you’ll actually use it, and the right category gets a lot clearer.

2. Fit Matters More Than Specs

A firearm you can hold comfortably and control is worth more than one with a longer spec sheet. Grip size, weight, and reach to the trigger all affect how well you’ll shoot.

3. Budget For The Whole Setup

The firearm is just the start. Plan for ammo, a way to store it safely, eye and ear protection, and range time to practice.

4. Know Your Local Laws

Rules vary by state and locality. We handle all sales by the book and are happy to explain what applies to you, including FFL transfers if you’re buying online.

5. Ask Questions — That’s What We’re Here For

There’s no dumb question when it comes to safety. Stop in or give us a call and we’ll point you in the right direction.
