How To Clean Your Rifle: A Simple Step-By-Step Routine

Regular cleaning is the single best thing you can do for your rifle’s reliability and resale value. You don’t need to be an armorer — just consistent. Here’s the routine we recommend.

What You’ll Need

A cleaning rod, bore brush and jag, patches, solvent, and a light gun oil. Our Universal Cleaning Kit has everything in one case.

Step 1: Clear And Confirm

Always confirm the firearm is unloaded — magazine out, chamber checked visually and physically — before you touch anything else.

Step 2: Run The Bore

Push a solvent-soaked patch through, follow with the bore brush, then dry patches until they come out clean. Always work from chamber to muzzle when you can.

Step 3: Wipe, Oil, And Reassemble

Wipe down the action and bolt, apply a light film of oil to moving parts, and reassemble. A little oil goes a long way — too much just attracts grit.

Do this after every range trip and your rifle will outlast you. Questions about your specific model? We’re glad to help.
